1. What is Chicago Codes?

Chicago Codes is the online presence of Index Publishing Corporation. Index Publishing’s experienced editorial staff has worked with the City of Chicago and other municipalities to provide the highest quality versions of the codes and ordinances for Chicago, Cook County and others, which are routinely relied on by both the public and private sectors. In addition to the code books trusted for decades by architects, attorneys, appraisers, realtors and contractors of all trades, Index Publishing maintains online a complete and timely version of all of ordinances that are part of the Chicago Municipal Code. We now produce print and/or online versions of:

• Chicago Building Code

• Chicago Electrical Code

• Chicago Zoning Ordinance

• Chicago Fire Prevention Code

• Chicago Plumbing Code

• Chicago Mechanical Code (HVAC)

• Chicago Energy Conservation Code

• Cook County Building and Environmental Ordinance

2. How do I gain access to your publications?
You can always order our products from the online store, but please feel free to call or email us to order any publications or services and we’ll be happy to help you find what you’re looking for..

3. If I have the Chicago Building Code, do I have to purchase the Chicago Electric Code also?
No. The Chicago Building contains all of the chapters of the Chicago Municipal Code relating to electrical, HVAC, plumbing, structural, lighting, exit requirements, fire prevention and anything else related to the construction industry. The Chicago Electric Code, Chicago Plumbing Code, Chicago Mechanical Code, Chicago Fire Prevention Code and Chicago Energy Conservation Code are all separate publications for the convenience of subcontractors only interested in those trades. The Chicago Zoning Ordinance is a separate publication, containing all of the zoning text from the Chicago Municipal Code, as well as zoning maps for the entire city.

4. How current are your code books?
The Chicago Building Code, Chicago Electric Code and the Chicago Zoning Ordinance are each published annually; all other code books are published less frequently, as new changes warrant. However, the entire Chicago Municipal Code is available online and is updated once a month on average, or as often as the Chicago City Council makes changes to the code. Access to the code online is provided free with your purchase of the Chicago Building Code, Chicago Electric Code or Chicago Zoning Ordinance.

5. What is the Chicago Codes Combo?
The Chicago Codes Combo is a package containing the current Chicago Building Code and Chicago Zoning Ordinance. With this purchase comes access to the full Chicago Municipal Code for one year.

6. Do you offer bulk rates on your publications?
We generally offer discounts for purchases of ten or more books. Call 312-644-6977 or send us an email for special pricing.

7. Can I purchase an out-of-print book?
If we have it in stock, we may be persuaded to part with an old edition of one of our books. Some out-of-print editions are available for reference at our office. Conversely, if you have an old edition of one of our books (prior to 1999), we are always looking for an opportunity to build up our library.

8. Do you perform code research?
We will research old codes and prepare a summary for $75 per hour. Let us know if this interests you.

9. Do you have an RSS feed?
