On April 25th, as part of Earth Month, Index Publishing, the Department of Environment and the Department of Construction and Permits hosted Building Green Chicago: Designing Green, Saving Green. The event drew a sell out crowd of 300 builders, developers, architects, engineers, consultants, brokers, owners, financial professionals, attorneys and more.

Sadhu Johnston kicked off the conference with his Keynote Address about the new environmental scorecard with business and residential challenges and new climate change strategies.

The financial incentives panel examined the business reasons for building green and the true payback in both dollars and sense. One of the strongest points made was that it makes sense to create a better working environment for employees, because that increases productivity. The product and design panel gave attendees a glimpse of the future of water conservation technologies, solar, lighting and roofing. Finally, conference attendees were treated to a virtual tour of several projects and their challenges and successes.

"Rarely have I attended such a well thought out and well executed conference. I not only gained an enormous amount of information but it is all relevant for our future . . . My thanks to all of you who put this together and are seeing that it continues as well as grows." - Harry Swihart, AIA, Barrington, IL
